Wordless Wednesday & Hops

Squirrel had just been on the birdfeeder, now he was getting the feed that had fallen on the ground. I guess he thought he was incognito.

Wednesday Hops

And for my flashback...way back....
landing in Hawaii on our way to the South Pacific
1966

 1. Have you ever been to the US capital-Washington DC? If so, what's your favorite site? If not, what would you most like to see on a visit to that city someday in the future? Is it even on your list of places to visit?
Yes, I visited the Capital in Jan of 1993.  I was most impressed with the Vietnam Wall Memorial.  I had seen the traveling wall, but nothing makes a statement like the original.

2. When did you last attend a wedding? Are there any weddings on your summer calendar? Were you a summer bride? If you're single, is summer the season of your dream wedding? A couple of years ago in the summer.  I was a late summer bride, August.  There are no weddings on my summer schedule, but there is one in the fall.

3. What is your favorite way to eat strawberries? Freshly washed, just out of the field.

4. What is one thing you are especially looking forward to this summer? Going to Boston to see my daughter, son in law and grandbabies.  One month, baby!

5. Do you use/like the self checker at the grocery store? I LOATHE the self checkers.

6. Share a favorite piece of common sense advice.  Wear sunblock, whether you burn or tan, it will help protect your skin  from turning into leather.

7. Barefoot, flip flops, tennis shoes, sassy sandals-your first choice for summertime? Flip flops.

8. Insert your own random thought here.  Favorite thing heard at work today, "I went to see my personal position, but I want to know if you have a position here."  (Position = physician)

The "You Can't Be Missed" Meme, The Last Part

Welcome back to Sunday Stealing which originated on WTIT: The Blog authored by Bud Weiser.
Today we ripped off a blogger (and friend for a lot of years) known as Cat.  She authors the blog Sweet Memes Link back to us at Sunday Stealing!

Sunday Stealing: The "You Can't Be Missed" Meme, The Last Part

Cheers to all of us thieves!

46. Would you ever try to quit one of your addictions, or better said: Bad Habits?
Well, actually I have, then started back.  Smoking.  Quit for 4 years.  When I'm ready will quit again.

47. Could you ever kill yourself to save someone else?
Not on purpose.

48. Does it matter if break up with someone or have them dump you?
Yes, a breakup hurts either way, but it is much better to be the dumper than the dumpee.

49. Would you rather have a turtle or a frog for a pet?
Turtle, in fact did have baby turtles that had the misfortune of crossing our yard when I was little.

50. Would you rather spend a day with Lady Gaga or Miley Cyrus?
Neither one actually.

51. Would you rather learn to play piano or guitar?
I'll go with piano, since that is what I had the most lessons in as a kid, but I did learn to play the ukelele a little bit.

52. We're going back to the day. Where did you get your kicks?

On route 66 of course.  Not.  Cruising up and down Ashley Street in my hometown. or going Disco dancing at Grego's.

53. What Asian country would you like to visit the most? Why?
Japan, then Korea.  Japan because my son and his family are stationed there, in Okinawa, and Korea because my other son is stationed there.

54. Have you ever thought that a passer-by was the one (think James Blunt, here)?
Maybe the one for fun, but not THE ONE.

55. Ever told someone that your fake jewelery was really real?
Yes, I have a very good 2 carat cubic zirconia that I didn't really say it was real, but did not correct their mistaken assumption.

56. Where are the worst public restrooms?
Okinawa, where they have women's toilets like this, a squat potty.

57. What song was the latest one that got overplayed really fast?
I have no idea as I mainly listen to stations whose format is a mixture of old and new.

58. What Friends (American TV show from the 90s) character are you most like?
Phoebe, I can be as ditzy as she is.

59. When's the last time you had a Popsicle?
Sadly, I can't remember.

60. What TV show from way back would you love to see reappear?

Thank you for playing this week on Sunday Stealing!

Flashback Friday and Friday Hops

So my flashbacks are going to be random!
First for Memorial Day

The rest of these were taken in the late 60's when we lived on Majuro, in the Marshall Islands.  Below, my brother and I were standing in our back yard.
Is this not the coolest bathing suit EVER?  I thought so, I would still wear it if I could!
My Dad and I
My Mom and I

Ok, now to the hops.

Sweet deal I found!

We had to go into town about 35 miles from where we live for my regular follow up doctors appointment.
Then to Target to get flip flops (which are really more like sandals)  for the flip flop swap I took part in,
Then out of the way (per my husband) for some cheap gas....love the Gas Buddy app :).
Only put $40.00 in because he only took cash, but that's ok.
Right beside the gas station is a yard sale....
Here are my finds!

They all need a new coat of paint and some cushions in all of the chairs.
The wicker was a set of chairs.
Pretty sweet.  Got all of it for less than what she was originally asking for the cast iron table and chair set.

Hope everyone is having a Fabulous Friday!

Memories of Aunt Vi

Aunt Vi passed away yesterday and I wanted to share some wonderful memories of her.

Aunt Vi lived in an astronauty part of Florida, and I can remember going to visit her in the summer time with my brother and parents.  She (& I) begged for me to be able to stay a few weeks with her, but my parents would never budge and let me stay.  Here are some of my favorite memories of her:
They had central air, and ran it on cool. (As opposed to a money wise setting)
They had real cable tv, before cable was available where I grew up.  I fell in love with Major Nelson, oh and Jeannie too, at her house.
She would take me to the grocery store and get sherbert.  Lemon, lime, orange!  I think that was the only place I ate sherbert until I was an adult and bought my own.
She lived on a canal, with an in ground pool enclosed in a lanai.
She lived near the beach.
She had an inside dog.
She loved to spoil me, as she had no little girl.
She was super exotic to me, always made up, hair always done in a chic short style, always wore high heels, so high to the point that it seems as if her feet were permanently molded to the shape of high heels!
She was a living breathing Barbie doll and she was MY AUNT!
She had a son, my cousin, who being 5 years older than me, I idolized!
Of course, being 5 years older than me had no time for his Pippy Longstocking look alike cousin.
Seriously, I looked like Pippy Longstocking, see:

Happy Monday

We've had a busy weekend.  First we went and bought all the supplies for the bathroom redo.  My house looks like a mini home warehouse store.  Then we went to a Wild Hog BBQ put on by my husbands friends family. I made this cake and took it.  I think it was the first cake I've made from scratch.  Here is a picture:
It's called Tropical Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting.  I found the recipe at Flour Me With Love
There were a lot of people at this BBQ and a lot of desserts, this cake was 3/4 eaten!  So check out the blog at Flour Me With Love for this recipe and others!

Now, It's Blog Hopping Time.  These are the Monday Blogs I'm participating in.
